Around one third of all workplace injuries in Australia occur during manual handling activities. Many of these injuries could have been avoided with good preventative interventions. Job specific training is one of those interventions. By providing your employees with the knowledge and skills to identify their potential hazards and know how to take appropriate measures to reduce the risk, you can prevent injuries and reduce monetary and productivity losses. Job Fit’s occupational health and safety professionals have extensive experience providing workplace training to educate and motivate people. In the ten years, since our doors opened, we have helped businesses reduce risk by customising training programs to suit the needs of each organisation. Our trainers are always enthusiastic and are knowledgeable in practical injury prevention techniques. We can provide individual evaluations to assess your employees on their comprehension and application of the instructional objectives.

What does the program involve?

Generally, we customise all our programs to suit the needs of our clients. This customisation can be in the form of theory based training and/or hands-on training in the working environment or in a training room. The fundamentals of our programs include:

  • How to identify hazardous manual handling
  • Correct and incorrect methods of lifting and handling material
  • Identifying movements and forces that must be avoided
  • Workplace warmup regime
  • Discussion, demonstration and participation of key workplace specific tasks
  • Injury prevention tips

Typically the session duration is 1-2 hours, however we can tailor a program to suit your needs. Ideally, we limit group sizes to 15 participants depending on the style and content of the training program. This allows for adequate group participation and learning. All our training programs include detailed handouts containing all the content covered in the program. We can also provide the training program as a high quality video package. What do you need to provide?

For the theoretical component of the program, all that we require is a training room with chairs, a data projector and laptop (we can provide the projector and laptop if needed). We may also require certain material and training aids which are relevant to the group in order to practice manual handling technique.

  • Ensuring jobs are performed using safe work practices
  • Reduced potential for manual handling related injuries and the effects they can have on production
  • Significant return on investment with a reduction in claims

  • Demonstrates compliance with legislation by providing workplace training to improve work practices

The ‘Stretch Into Action’ program aims at creating awareness of the importance of regular exercise and how if can benefit us at work. Performing warming up exercises at regular (but short) intervals throughout the working day will help minimise muscular fatigue and tension, ultimately improving overall health and fitness as well as reduce the potential for injury.

Warming up the body before we start work (just like we do before exercising) increases blood flow and muscle temperature. This in turn increases muscle and joint elasticity and helps to relax tight muscles and joints.

Whether you work in an office, in a factory, or as a sales rep we customise a warm-up program to suit the needs of our audience.

What does the program involve?

This program aims at creating awareness of the importance of regular exercise and keeping healthy in relation to good wellbeing. Any job that requires repetitive movements, sustained postures or handling of material will benefit from the exercise regime that is developed during this program. A main objective of this program is a warm-up program that your employees will perform at the start of their shift, every day. The ‘Stretch Into Action’ program includes discussions on:

  • The recommended minimum exercise guidelines
  • What role regular exercise and stretching has on injury prevention
  • How to incorporate exercise at work

Discussions, demonstration and participation of the exercises developed specifically for the group.

Combining Stretch Into Action with our manual handling training (link to manual handling training page) provides a fantastic injury prevention program for your organization. Your employees will be educated on safe manual handling techniques specific to their working environment whilst also learning the importance of physically preparing your body before work commences.
